Water Development for the Salt Lake Valley Detailed History
Salt
Lake City Department of Public Utilities has analyzed our water resources
for the presence of pharmaceuticals and none were found. Our water supply is
above any wastewater discharge and the potential for drug contamination is
low. Our community has been actively eliminating drugs from the environment
by providing local facilities for drug disposal in police stations.
Together Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Valley Health and the State of Utah
Department of Environmental Quality have been promoting the collection of
unwanted pharmaceuticals through the police and sheriff’s offices since May
2007, resulting in over 1000 pounds of drugs being diverted from the water
environment.
If you
have drugs you need to dispose of please check for disposal facilities on
this web page,
http://www.medicationdisposal.utah.gov/ The number of communities
actively using this program is growing daily. Be sure to recommend it
in your community if they are not already participating. |
